Position Function and Summary: 

As Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits moves towards an integrated planning model for its Supply Chain, the Sales & Operations Planning group plays a critical role in its success. The Group facilitates the accurate forecasting of sales through a combination of statistical analysis and close collaboration with the Commercial function. The S&OP Lead will be in the local market served and act as the point of contact between the Supply Chain and local Commercial functions at the Division(s) level. S/he will be responsible for creating and updating the statistical sales forecast and provide support to the Regional S&OP Director to execute the national planning strategy in their respective state(s) and ensure that the process and training are in place for accurate statistical forecasting and effective inclusion of commercial intelligence. This role requires strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills working cross-functionally, people management skills, ability to influence at multiple leadership levels and ensures there is open communication between Regional Leadership, Local General Managers and other Divisional Leadership. The role will report to the Regional Director, Sales & Operations Planning.

 


Core Responsibilities:


  • Utilize the JDA Demand Planning software to model and create unconstrained statistical demand forecast based on historical depletions, market trends, seasonality, product mix, bias and other factors

  • Identify and correct exceptions and anomalies in the statistical forecast that may impact accuracy; choose and apply the appropriate forecasting algorithms and parameters in accordance with regional/national policies; proactively collaborate with Commercial counterparts on forecasting demand for new items and addressing exceptions

  • Responsible for supporting the S&OP Director for the overall execution of demand planning activities in assigned state(s) – jointly responsible with Regional commercial team for demand forecast accuracy at the state level

  • Oversee select State Sales & Operations Planners in-region as an expert statistical forecaster

  • Manage the on-boarding and assist with the training of select State Planners related to JDA functionality and use

  • Work with the regional S&OP Director to identify coaching opportunities and help develop State Planners in-region

  • Manage workload distribution and scheduling for in state/region planners

  • Ability to monitor KPI targets to effectively allocate resources for maximum performance

  • Serve as Supply Chain liaison to regional Commercial leaders; collaborate to review demand forecasting performance and identify/ implement processes and tools to improve the sharing of sales forecasts between Commercial and Operations

  • Coordinate and facilitate select Regional S&OP Demand Reviews where implemented

  • Assist with corporate purchase requests and monitor adherence to the established process

  • Review planner’s narratives each month and incorporate into a state forecast recap

  • Leverages best practices with other sites to further shape and improve the Sales & Operations Planning business processes

  • Problem solving on Commercial and cross functional issues

  • Commercial – Local Account Executives, Brand Managers, State commercial leadership

  • Supply Planning – Central Inventory Optimization Managers and Replenishment Specialists

  • Regional and Local Supply Chain & Operations Leaders

  • Regional S&OP Director & Senior Directors

  • State Sales& Operations Planners

 


Qualifications

 

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (technical field preferred) or equivalent work experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in Supply Chain Operations, Business Planning or Statistical Modelling, required

  • Strong analytical acumen; ability to think critically at the Supply Chain system level and understand interdependencies between demand, supply and operations

  • Experience leading or managing decentralized teams - either direct reports or project-based teams

  • Previous experience with statistical forecasting software and a working understanding of statistical modelling and business planning is a requirement; job role will require candidate to coach team in the use of JDA and serve as a forecasting expert

  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions including with Commercial Leadership to present analyses, challenge thinking and influence outcomes

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite including Excel and PowerPoint; comfortable with excel-based modelling

  • Strong understanding of products, categories and channels in the alcoholic beverage industry

  • Minimal travel required; up to once per month

  • Ability to embed a cross-functional culture of harmonization of goals and objectives, process improvement, and value creation is required.
