Director, Enterprise Data Management Solutions

Description
Accountable for managing and overseeing the initiatives of the data management program including prioritizing work, setting milestones, reviewing progress, and reporting status. The individual will be responsible for working closely with multiple functional groups to define and lead data, business process programs and system solution projects in partnership with IT.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Data Management and Governance
  • Ensure solutions create centralized repositories of data that are shared as much as possible across applications and business units for conducting business off of a single source.
  • Constantly strive for ways to reduce data management costs and optimize data value
  • Maintain current knowledge of new technologies and practices used in the master data process through exposure to industry practices, changing technology, and proactive networking.
  • Implement governance to drive data quality efforts and data stewardship by the business to ensure the accuracy of information across Southern and with suppliers and customers
  • Work with IT to design integrations of the master data to all other systems so as to drive the use of a single source
  • Work closely with the BI and Advanced Analytics functions to ensure Master Data synchronization with Enterprise Data Warehouse and to monitor use of data in enterprise reports
  • Create the data governance framework that meets data objectives for the organization
  • Perform research to formulate data governance recommendations (data ownership, management, usage rights and decision making processes, procedures)
  • Recommend ways to strengthen data integrity, quality and availability across the organization.
  • Design, develop, document and deploy consistent company-wide data definitions, processes and ownership guidelines for customer, supplier and item/product data elements
  • Define data governance model that will establish and document data creation, update guidelines and decision rights
  • Within the governance model, define data stewards within functions combining the knowledge of existing source data with the ability to determine how to transform the source information into the defined master data standard format
Policy, Standards, and Processes
  • Drive policies and procedures to drive operational efficiencies and standardization for data management.
  • Provide business data expertise to divisions and project teams to ensure effective use of data, and processes across the organization.
  • Apply best practice to the re-engineering of the data life cycle across item, customer , employee and supplier and across key business processes such as order to cash
  • Develop and manage enterprise data policies, standards, and processes
  • Facilitate adoption of the enterprise data governance policies, procedures, and standards by providing an advisory and oversight function for all data-centric business and technology initiatives, projects and/or programs
  • Contribute to the development of data management strategies, policies and best practices through participation in management meetings and other direct contributions.
  • Establish data quality process, governance, and effective use of issue tracking and management tools
  • Lead the definition of To Be business processes
Data Quality
  • Manage the development and implementation of capabilities to improve, monitor, and audit data quality within the operations, reporting and analytics environments.
  • Work with business and IT partners to remediate identified gaps using both manual and automated solutions
  • Develop data quality metrics that identify gaps and ensure compliance with standards across the enterprise
  • Ensure processes are in place to proactively detect, correct, and prevent data quality issues
  • Assist in the creation and management of Master Data Governance Committee(s).
Management/Leadership
  • Maintain working relationships with all levels of business leadership to ensure business needs are met.
  • Manage direct reports, systems, and projects to achieve Data Management vision
  • Create an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance, and maintaining open communications.
  • Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments, and establishing performance & development plans.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Management, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, MIS or related field
  • Masters preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in implementing and sustaining a master data management discipline (meta data, data governance, data quality, processes, technologies) in a multi-billion dollar organization.
  • Experience in retail, distribution or CPG industries
  • Experience, collaborating in a diverse, cross-functional corporate environment
  • Experience in defining business data hierarchies (Customer, Supplier or Item)
  • Experience managing data (e.g., digital assets, customer data, product data), and business processes
  • IT Application Development Life Cycle
  • Experience working in a multi-location organization during the execution of a multi-year, business and technology roadmap;Leading multi-million dollar programs
  • Experience working with supplier, customer, item/product data, including experience working with industry leading master data tools
  • Experience developing high performing teams
  • Team Player with strong attention to detail

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite in particular Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Word
  • Can connect business information needs, processes and data needs

  • Confident in interaction with all levels of employees and navigating organizations

  • Be highly collaborative, team-oriented and strong consensus builder
  • Demonstrated ability to work across regions and functions preferably in a large management consulting org.
