Benefits & Absence Team Lead

Description
The Benefits & Absence Mgmt. Team Lead is an expert in managing non-union benefits and leave of absence inquiries and resolution.
In addition to perfoming the role of a Benefits & Absence Mgmt. Partner, the Team Lead handles escalated, complex and global issues and
monitors the ADAA interactive process. Leads the team in improving leave administration through strategies, policies, and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities
Train and coach Benefits & Absence Mgmt. Partners to ensure an organized and predictable experience for employees and managers
Manage escalations as the expert in Statutory leave laws for the State(s) in assigned Region
Monitors the ADAA interactive process as liaison between the absence carrier & HRBP’s to ensure timely and proper tracking and response
Lead the team in improving strategies and policies for managing leave administration efficiently and with integrity
Responds, manages and resolves employee benefits inquiries via telephone and email regarding enrollment and eligibility, qualified life events,
paid and unpaid leaves of absence, and claims issues.
Provides support to employees during enrollment such as New Hire and Annual Enrollment
Assist employees with appeal process when claims are denied.
Open tickets to Shared Services for issues requiring Master Data changes and correction between internal HRIS and third-party vendor systems
Administer medical leave, personal leave, and other leaves with employees, HRBPs and third-party vendor
Communicate leave payment information with payroll department
Support the worker’s compensation leave process including communication with employees regarding pay and insurance premium payments during
their leave period
Research and complete wage statement requests from the insurance company by retrieving pay information from HRIS for a specified amount of time
Evaluate alternatives and approve workplace accommodations
Implement best practices to return employees back to work utilizing return to work programs and light duty when possible
Partner with Safety to reduce work injuries
Educate employees and management on leave practices and policies
Evaluate leave trends and recommend solutions; study existing and new legislation; anticipate legislation changes, enforce adherence to requirements,
and advise management on needed actions
Comply with and enforce adherence to federal, state, and local legal requirements including ERISA, Section 125 Cafeteria Plans, State and Federal leave
laws and advise employees accordingly
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree plus five years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong knowledge of Affordable Care Act and Southern Glazer’s Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Flexible Spending Accounts,
Health Savings Accounts, 401(k) Plans
Strong knowledge of ERISA, Section 125 Cafeteria Plans, FMLA/ ADAAA and Statutory Leave laws in assigned Region
Excellent interpersonal, customer service skills to communicate complex information in a straightforward manner, verbally and in writing
using persuasion and motivation to build relationships and facilitate understanding
Excellent problem solving, problem management, presentation development, presentation, and communications skills
Strong knowledge of SAP, Outlook, MS Office Suite and software applications related to job functions
Working knowledge of all programs to assist in design changes and implementation of core programs
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with cross-functional relationships; partner with Human Resources Business
Partners and all levels of personnel
Planning and organizational skills and business judgment, including the ability to anticipate the impact of decisions/initiatives

Preferred Qualifications
Excellent accuracy and attention to detail skills in processing complex benefits and pay-related corrections and changes
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Knowledge of compliance issues related to a multi-state, multi-company payroll

Physical Demands
Physical demands include a considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, reading and responding to emails using a computer
e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor), or adding machine
Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping
May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
